April Fool's Day is in April, you fool!

Rob Rosenberger, Vmyths co-founder
Friday, 8 May 1998 THE ARMED FORCES Communications & Electronics Association published an incredulous[1] story about a new "Blitzkrieg server" — a "self-programmed, fault-immune, ubiquitous virus-like system" which can defend military networks by launching retaliatory strikes against a hacker's Internet provider and every hapless customer logged on at the same time. AFCEA quotes Blitzkrieg's creator: "the server's virus-like sole objective is rampant, aggressive proliferation... This 'infection' assimilates all other nodes attached to the [hacker's] network in a process that is intentionally transparent to the host computer irrespective of any antivirus preventive or protective mechanism." Translation: "you will be assimilated; resistance is futile." Crypt Newsletter pounced on the story with a blistering editorial. Personally, I wonder if AFCEA accidentally forgot to publish it last month as an April Fool's joke...
