Crawling out from under a rock

Rob Rosenberger, Vmyths co-founder
Thursday, 11 December 1997 JONATHAN LITTMAN'S COMMENTARY raises one important question: "did he just crawl out from under a rock?" The era of politically motivated hacks started long before Yahoo!'s incident — and those hacks affected actual political websites. Examples include the Department of Justice, the CIA, both major political parties of Great Britain, and a few lesser-known hacks of political websites in other countries.

We've also seen at least one politically motivated website hack against a fur company. If Littman wants to discuss Kevin Mitnick's incarceration and its motivation for the Yahoo! attack, fine. But the commentary loses its credibility by giving Mitnick's fan club credit for ushering in a new era of political hacking.
